Project Cities update
Aussie books read recently
šš» Hello
This email was in my drafts as āMay newsletterā so that should give you some idea of how things are going in my life š
Itās nothing drastic, but work has been hectic (boo), and Iāve started a new job (yay), which means Iām back in learning mode instead of Iām-confident-and-know-what-Iām-doing-mode (eeeep). AKA, life is life-ing.
And in the midst of all that, I have received three more rejections for Project Mountains.
Wow, this email is starting off a bit of a downer. Letās get on to some good news, shall we?
āļø My article for The Australian Womenās Weekly
If you know me, youāll know that the Romance Writers of Australia conference is one of my favourite times of the year.
And I was lucky enough to be able to write an article about it for The Australian Womenās Weekly recently.

āļø Project Cities updates
Rewrites on Project Cities are moving slowly and steadily forwards. Iāve finally ticked over to that part of my process where Iām keen to power through to the end, and not deliberate so much on the details.
(At least, thatās what Iām trying to tell myself.)
Here are some progress stats:
27,422 words
This is how many words I had to cut from my first draft because they no longer worked for the new plot arc I introduced to help increase the conflict.
Thatās 14 chapters of work.
Ultimately, I think three of them will slot back in. But itās the most Iāve ever culled from a first draft, thatās for sure!
105,506 words
The current new word count. Which is way too long, considering I have at least seven chapters left to write. And the epilogue ā¦
17,044 words
The amount Iāve cut from the manuscript as Iāve worked through it. Lines here and there, chunks of paragraphs, or whole sections of a scene.
Thatās in addition to the culled chapters. Which brings my total cut words count to ā¦
44,466 words
For context, thatās almost as long as an entire category romance novel. And itās more than double the word count of my Christmas novella Checking You Twice.
Pssssss! If youāve read Checking You Twice, make sure to grab the free bonus epilogue.
Wait, what is Project Cities again?
Itās a spicy standalone romance with a twist on the road twist trope.
Two people convinced they want opposite things are forced into proximity and realise maybe what they want is right in front of them.
